July Board Meeting
Our next board meeting will be July 11th at Lenox Hill Hospital from 6 – 7:30 pm. A light dinner will be served. We look forward to seeing you!
Mr. Kerner has an extensive background in emergency care, both as an emergency nurse and paramedic. In his capacity as a registered nurse, he has held positions in busy emergency departments as staff nurse, educator and manager. In 2006, he collaborated with the Patient Safety Institute to develop the first emergency department nurse fellowship while serving as full time faculty at the Adelphi University School of Nursing. He joined PSI’s faculty as a Clinical Education Specialist in 2007 and now serves as Assistant Director.
Mr. Kerner is particularly interested in simulation as a teaching tool to reduce preventable errors and the use of video technology in the classroom. He has produced several educational videos for the Patient Safety Institute. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School and a Bacelors degree in nursing from Adelphi University. He is a candidate for the Doctor of Education degree at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. He is board certified in emergency nursing. He is an Assistant Professor of Science Education at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine.

LGBT Parade
Please join us as we march with the NYU team in the LGBT pride parade this Sunday, June 29th, starting at 1:30 p.m. By showing your support and being visible as nurses in purple scrubs, we are informing the public that nurses support culturally-sensitive care and are in solidarity with LGBT population.
You need not be LGBT to join the parade.
When: June 29, 2014 – Sunday
Assembly Point for the NYU Team: 38th Street between Madison and Park Avenues
Assembly Time: 1:30 p.m.
What to Wear: Purple scrub tops and any bottoms
Keep in mind:
• Since we will be walking for approximately 4 – 5 hours, we want to ensure you all are energized and hydrated prior to and during the march.
• The weather is expected to reach a high of 90 degrees on the day of the parade. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring any essentials such as sunscreen if you need it.
• There will be portable restrooms available along the march. We will have bathroom passes that will allow you all to leave and re-enter the march in the event you need to use the restroom.
